Welcome to Paradise! That’s how I was greeted by my cab driver at the airport. Paradise? My first thought was he is being extra. Even though it was my first time to the Bahamas, it is a popular destination spot, calling it a paradise must be an exaggeration. Well, as we began our drive to our airbnb, I slowly started to realize why they call Bahamas a paradise. Here are the 5 reasons why should you visit Bahamas.

THE PEOPLE:
Starting from the first warm and friendly welcome at the airport to all the way to my last good bye from a Bahamian 3 days later, every single person is genuinely friendly. I even got on a local bus to explore Nassau away from the touristy areas and I observed every single passenger who got on the bus greeted everyone on the bus upon entering and then proceeded to their seats.

BEACHES:
One of the biggest reason why should you visit Bahamas. We have all seen calendars with beautiful beaches full of white sands, crystal clear waters and a perfectly formed sea shell. My friends, those pictures are of the beaches of the Bahamas. Montague beach is one of the local beach located approx. 20 kms from downtown. Junkanoo beach is a popular one among tourist. This beach offers plenty of opportunities for water activities such as snorkeling, kayaking, jet skiing, etc. Located within walking distance from downtown, there are plenty of restaurants and stores to visit also.

FOOD:
Can we just talk about how delicious the food is! If only you could smell and taste the food through a picture. My first meal was courtesy of a photo truck by the Montagu beach. The curry chicken had the perfect amounts of all the right spices and the chicken was cooked so well that it just melts in your mouth. Yummy! Some of my favorite restaurants were: Bamboo Shack, a big hit among the locals, I thoroughly enjoyed the guava chicken and the coconut tart was amazing! Athena Cafe is located in downtown, which offers Greek cuisine. And lastly, don’t forget to check out Wild Thyme restaurant, another local favorite, it recently opened it’s doors. I LOVED the spinach and ricotta stuffed pasta. If you are looking to satisfy your sweet tooth, the Rum cake factory and the chocolate factory will do the job. The Rum cake factory has the best rum cake which is offered in various flavors and you can watch them being made right in front of you.

HISTORY AND ARCHITECTURE:
Bahamas declared its independence in 1973 from the British empire. Today it is one of the richest countries in the Americas following the United States and Canada. Some of the notable historical places to visit are Queen’s staircase, Fort Fincastle and Fort Charlotte.
- Queen’s staircase
- Fort Charlotte

LOCATION:
Bahamas is conveniently located southeast of the U.S. state of Florida. It is an extremely popular stop for cruise ships. English is the official language and the U.S. dollar is widely used on the island. All of these factors make it one of the most popular vacation spot for the nearby countries.

Now that hat we have discussed why you should visit the Bahamas, let’s talk about how you can make it happen! Cruises are the most popular options and are available from multiple cities. Check out Groupon getaways for some good deals. Flying is another option and a personal preference. I was able to score a round trip from D.C. To Nassau for under $200, the trick is to buy your ticket 3-4 months in advance. Hotel accommodations are pricey especially around peak seasons so I went with airbnb. The locals are very friendly and welcoming, you won’t be disappointed!
“It is indeed better in the Bahamas!”
