What to do with One Day in Annapolis, MD? 24 Hour Itinerary

This post is about what to do with one day in Annapolis, MD. My 24 hours itinerary.

You know those days when you just need to breathe? Like, really breathe, near the water, in a charming town, with good food and even better vibes?

That was exactly what I needed when I decided to take a spontaneous day trip to Annapolis, Maryland. I had no real plan, no set itinerary, just a craving for cobblestone streets, historic buildings, and seafood fresh from the dock.

And let me tell you, Annapolis delivered. This little gem of a town completely swept me off my feet. It’s cozy, walkable, and full of personality, with sailboats bobbing in the harbor, American flags flapping from old rowhouses, and locals sipping iced tea on sunny patios.

If you’re thinking about sneaking away for a quick trip, here’s exactly how I spent a dreamy day in Annapolis, with all my tips and little discoveries mixed in. It felt like a storybook day, and I’m so excited to share it with you.

I now offer a custom vacation planning service. Check it out here!

HOW TO SPEND ONE DAY IN ANNAPOLIS?

Planning a trip to Annapolis is super easy, especially if you’re coming from DC, Baltimore, or Philly. It’s only about an hour’s drive from Washington, D.C. (without traffic, of course), and around 2 hours from Philadelphia.

If you’re the type who likes to book in advance, Annapolis has tons of adorable inns and boutique hotels, but since I was just going for the day, I didn’t need one this time.

Parking in the historic downtown can be a little tricky, especially on weekends, so I used the Gotts Court Parking Garage and walked everywhere from there. Easy, central, and affordable.

When is the best time to visit Annapolis?

I went in late spring, and it was honestly perfect. The air was warm but not humid, and the flowers were blooming like crazy. I kept stopping just to take photos of hydrangea bushes and pastel porches.

Here’s a quick breakdown of what to expect:

    • Spring (April–June): Gorgeous weather, blooming gardens, fewer crowds.
    • Summer (July–August): Super lively, especially on the waterfront, but expect some heat and humidity.
    • Fall (September–November): Crisp air, golden leaves, and quieter streets.
    • Winter (December–February): Cold, but still festive, especially during holiday events.

    How to get around Annapolis?

Once you park, you can totally ditch the car. Annapolis is one of the most walkable towns I’ve visited.

Everything is close, the waterfront, the shops, the Naval Academy, restaurants, museums, all within a few blocks.

If you want to feel extra cute, rent a bike or take a water taxi for a little scenic twist on getting around. But honestly, I loved just wandering on foot and letting the cobblestone paths lead the way.

    What to do in Annapolis?

Okay, here’s how my perfect Annapolis day went (and how yours could, too):

    1. Start your morning with a stroll down Main Street

Main Street is everything you’d hope for in a historic coastal town, colorful, inviting, and buzzing with the scent of pastries and sea air.

I popped into a few cute boutiques and art galleries before grabbing coffee from Bitty & Beau’s, a feel-good café that supports people with disabilities. The coffee was great, and the energy was even better.

    2. Visit the U.S. Naval Academy

Next stop? The U.S. Naval Academy.

You can walk onto campus (just bring your ID!), and it’s seriously beautiful. The buildings are grand, the grounds are immaculate, and I loved learning a bit about the history and traditions here.

I didn’t do the full guided tour, but I’d recommend it if you have time, the chapel and crypt are fascinating.

    3. Soak up the waterfront vibes at Ego Alley

Yes, it’s really called Ego Alley, and yes, the people-watching is amazing.

This narrow stretch of water in the heart of the harbor is where boats slowly cruise by to show off. I sat on a bench with a lemonade and watched as everything from kayaks to luxury yachts glided past.

There’s just something about the sound of seagulls and boat ropes clinking that melts stress away.

    4. Lunch with a view

By this point, the fresh breeze and walking had worked up a serious appetite.

I found a sunny spot at Pusser’s Caribbean Grille, right on the harbor, and settled in for a slow lunch. The crab cake sandwich was everything I hoped it would be, golden, crispy, and full of flavor. I sipped their famous painkiller cocktail (rum, pineapple, coconut, yes please) and watched the sailboats bob gently in the marina.

There’s something so comforting about seafood that’s been caught just hours before. I lingered there longer than I planned, but I mean… can you blame me?

    Where to eat in Annapolis?

As someone who lives in Orlando, a city with a lot of food options, I can say Annapolis pleasantly surprised me. There’s such a good mix of casual, historic, and upscale eats, all within walking distance.

    • Iron Rooster: If you love brunch as much as I do, this place is a must. Their homemade pop-tarts are famous for a reason, warm, flaky, and not too sweet.
    • Chick & Ruth’s Delly: A quirky, old-school spot with massive sandwiches and lots of personality. It’s been around forever and feels like a step back in time.
    • Dry 85: Think craft cocktails, sliders, and bourbon flights. Perfect for a low-lit evening hangout.
    • Annapolis Ice Cream Company: This was my dessert stop, handmade, small-batch, and sooo creamy. I went for salted caramel, but honestly, you can’t go wrong.

I kept saying, “just one more bite,” and then eating the whole thing. Story of my life.

Any other tips for spending one day in Annapolis?

    • Bring your ID if you want to enter the Naval Academy grounds.
    • Wear comfy shoes. Those cobblestone streets are no joke.
    • Avoid driving in circles looking for street parking, use a garage and save yourself the headache.
    • Watch for weekend crowds, especially in summer. Early mornings and weekdays are more chill.
    • Talk to locals! They’re proud of their town and full of great recommendations.

    CONCLUSION- ONE DAY IN ANNAPOLIS

Annapolis is one of those places that instantly makes you feel like you’ve hit pause on real life. It’s beautiful but not pretentious, full of history but also full of life. Whether you’re into boats, books, brunch, or just need a scenic escape, this little coastal town has you covered.

My day in Annapolis wasn’t jam-packed, but it was just right. A mix of good coffee, slow walks, waterfront views, and delicious food. By the time I left, I felt calm, happy, and already planning my next visit.

So if you’re looking for a quick getaway that doesn’t feel rushed, a day trip to Annapolis might be exactly what your soul needs.

Trust me, it’s one of those places that sticks with you.
