HOW TO PLAN A DAY TRIP TO VENICE?

How to get around in Venice?

Firstly, there is an international airport in Venice where you can fly in from many destinations. I actually flew into Milan from NYC as I found the flights that worked best for me. I then booked my train tickets through the Omio app which was pretty easy and convenient to use.

Once I got to Venice, I pretty much walked everywhere. The city is full of canals and bridges, so renting a car won’t work. Be prepared to walk a lot!

When is the best time to visit Venice?

Summers in Venice get really busy and crowded with tourists and not to forget the weather is hot & humid. I went in mid June and it was pretty crowded already. The lines at the attractions were long and it was challenging waiting in the heat. April, September, and October are considered off-season, that means the weather is more pleasant and crowds are smaller.

    Where to stay in Venice?

As mentioned, I chose to do a day trip to Venice instead of spending the night there. If you do decide to spend a night or 2 there, the city has some wonderful hotels that you can stay at. I had narrowed down some options but I didn’t want to drag my suitcases around the city, so took the day trip option. Check them out:

    • Hotel Carlton on the Grand Canal– A beautiful 4-star hotel located on the Grand Canal promising the most amazing views.
    • Hotel Rialto– Another 4-star hotel, I saw a ton of good reviews of this hotel and breakfast was included.

    CONCLUSION

Venice is one of those iconic destinations that one has to visit it at least once in their lifetime. Pictures and videos do no justice on how stunning it is. You have to be there in person to experience it. I enjoyed my day trip to Venice from Milan. I found the high-speed trains extremely efficient and convenient to jump from one city to another. I hope you visit Venice soon!
