2 day itinerary for Cocoa Beach

This post is a 2 day itinerary for an amazing trip to Cocoa Beach, FL. There’s something special about waking up in Orlando, throwing a bag in the backseat, and knowing the ocean is just an hour away. That’s exactly what I did one sunny Saturday when I decided, on a whim, to escape for the weekend to Cocoa Beach, Florida, one of those classic, easy-going beach towns that feels like a time capsule of pure coastal joy.

As soon as I crossed the Causeway Bridge and caught that first glimpse of the ocean glittering under the Florida sun, I felt it, that slow-down, breathe-deep feeling you only get near the sea. Cocoa Beach isn’t flashy or overdone; it’s chill, nostalgic, and effortlessly beautiful. It’s surfers heading out before sunrise, families building sandcastles, and locals chatting over fresh seafood with sandy feet.

If you live in Orlando (like me) or you’re just looking for a quick weekend escape, this is your sign. Cocoa Beach is the perfect mix of fun, relaxation, and that “I could totally live here” vibe. So here’s my personal 2 day itinerary for Cocoa Beach, full of sunshine, salt air, and a few surprises.

THINGS TO KNOW: HOW DO I PLAN A 2 DAY TRIP TO COCOA BEACH?

When is the best time to visit Cocoa Beach?

If you ask me, Cocoa Beach is one of those “anytime” destinations, but it does have its sweet spots. I went in early spring, when the weather was warm but not unbearably hot, and it was perfect.

Generally, the best time to visit is March through May, or September through November. The ocean is warm enough for swimming, there’s less humidity, and the crowds thin out after summer. If you love surfing or watching rocket launches (more on that soon), check the Kennedy Space Center launch calendar before you go, it’s absolutely worth timing your trip for one.

I now offer a custom vacation planning service. Check it out here!

How to get around Cocoa Beach?

Everything in Cocoa Beach feels close. Once you’re there, you really don’t need a car much unless you’re planning to drive out to Port Canaveral or the Kennedy Space Center.

Most hotels are within walking distance of the beach, and there are bike rentals everywhere, I used Cocoa Beach Surf Company to grab a cruiser for a few hours, and it was such a vibe riding down Ocean Beach Blvd with the sea breeze in my face.

If you don’t feel like biking, Uber works fine, or you can hop on the Space Coast Area Transit buses, they’re inexpensive and surprisingly efficient.

What to pack for Cocoa Beach?

Cocoa Beach is all about comfort and sunshine. My weekend bag looked like this:

    • Swimsuit (or two, you’ll want options!)
    • Flip-flops and comfy sandals
    • A hat, sunscreen, and sunglasses (the Florida trio)
    • A light dress for dinner or a cute cover-up for the beach
    • A reusable water bottle, hydration is everything in the Florida sun

Oh, and don’t forget a portable charger. Between beach photos, rocket launch videos, and café snaps, your phone will thank you.

Where to stay in Cocoa Beach?

I stayed at Beachside Hotel & Suites, and it was exactly the kind of beach getaway I needed. The rooms are bright and laid-back, there’s a lazy river that winds through the property, and you can literally walk to the beach in under five minutes.

If you want something more upscale, Westgate Cocoa Beach Resort is amazing for families or couples, think private beach access, colorful tiki bars, and a big tropical pool area.

And for the ultimate surf-town experience, La Quinta Inn by Wyndham Cocoa Beach-Port Canaveral has that old-Florida charm with modern comfort. Fun fact: it was once co-owned by the Mercury 7 astronauts!

Where to eat in Cocoa Beach?

If there’s one thing I learned during my weekend in Cocoa Beach, it’s that food just tastes better when there’s salt in the air and you can still feel the sand between your toes. Every meal here felt like an extension of the beach, casual, warm, and effortlessly joyful.

My first stop was Coconuts on the Beach, a local favorite that feels like summer never ends. I sat at a table overlooking the ocean, with live music in the background and the smell of grilled fish drifting through the air. The fish tacos were messy in the best way possible, and paired with a cold drink and ocean breeze, it was pure Florida happiness.

That evening, I decided to slow things down with dinner at The Fat Snook, a cozy, candlelit spot tucked just a few blocks from the water. The kind of place where time slows down and every bite feels intentional. I ordered scallops, perfectly seared and buttery, and found myself smiling at how such a quiet, simple meal could feel so memorable.

The next morning, I woke up early and wandered into Simply Delicious Café & Bakery. It’s bright, quirky, and smells like pure comfort. The owner chatted with me as I devoured their stuffed French toast, which, honestly, should come with a warning label for being addictive. There’s something about this little café that feels like home, everyone leaves smiling and full.

Later that afternoon, after a long beach walk, I ended up at Grills Seafood Deck & Tiki Bar down by the marina. It’s one of those places where you can sit for hours, watching the boats sway while sipping a drink under a tiki roof. The mahi-mahi sandwich was perfection, light, fresh, and kissed by the grill, and I loved that you could actually see the fishing boats that brought in your meal earlier that day.

Before heading back to Orlando, I treated myself to one last dinner at Flavour Kitchen & Wine Bar. This place feels different, modern, creative, a little more refined. The wine flowed, the dishes were beautifully plated, and the conversation at the bar felt easy, like everyone there had spent the day with their feet in the sand.

Every meal in Cocoa Beach had its own flavor and story, but together they shared a common thread, that easy coastal rhythm where food isn’t just about eating, it’s about feeling. Whether it was seafood by the waves or a sweet slice of pie in a cozy café, each bite reminded me why this little beach town has such a big heart.

What to do with 2 days in Cocoa Beach?

This little slice of the Space Coast is packed with things to do, from surf lessons and beach bars to rocket launches and nature trails. Here’s how I spent my 48 hours soaking in every bit of it.

STEAL MY 2-DAY ITINERARY FOR COCOA BEACH

DAY 1: SALTY HAIR, SANDY FEET, AND SUNSET MAGIC

My first morning started early, and I mean early. I wanted to catch the sunrise, so I grabbed a coffee from Oceanside Café and walked barefoot to the sand. There’s something about that first light spilling over the horizon that makes everything feel right in the world.

After soaking it in, I headed to the Cocoa Beach Pier, one of the most iconic spots in town. It’s been here since the 1960s and still has that retro beach charm, think colorful umbrellas, fishermen casting lines, and the smell of fried shrimp in the air. I walked all the way to the end where Rikki Tiki Tavern sits perched over the water, the perfect place for a morning mimosa with ocean views.

Then it was time for some adventure. I booked a surf lesson (because, let’s be honest, you can’t come to Cocoa Beach and not at least try). The instructor was patient, funny, and had me standing up by the second wave. There’s something about feeling the power of the ocean beneath your feet that makes you forget everything else for a while.

After all that paddling, I was starving, so I made my way to Coconuts on the Beach for lunch. It’s loud, colorful, and exactly what a Florida beach bar should be. I ordered their famous fish tacos and a piña colada (because, balance), and just watched the waves roll in.

In the afternoon, I decided to check out the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex. It’s only about 25 minutes away, and even if you’re not a total space nerd, it’s mind-blowing. Standing under the actual Space Shuttle Atlantis and hearing stories from real astronauts made me feel like a little kid again.

Back in Cocoa Beach, I ended my day watching the sunset from the pier, barefoot and salty-haired, feeling completely content. Dinner that night was at The Fat Snook, cozy, candlelit, and one of the best seafood meals I’ve ever had. The scallops? Perfection.

DAY 2: SPACE, SEA, AND SWEET ESCAPES

Day two started slower, the kind of lazy morning that beach towns are made for. I grabbed breakfast at Simply Delicious Café & Bakery, a local favorite with a quirky retro vibe. Their stuffed French toast is life-changing, and I may or may not have ordered a slice of key lime pie to go.

After breakfast, I headed to Lori Wilson Park, one of Cocoa Beach’s most beautiful public beaches. It’s clean, wide, and lined with sea oats, perfect for a swim or just laying under an umbrella with a good book. I spent hours there doing absolutely nothing, which honestly felt like everything.

In the afternoon, I drove toward Port Canaveral to catch a dolphin and manatee kayak tour. Paddling through the calm waters of the Banana River Lagoon, I spotted dolphins gliding right beside us and pelicans swooping down to fish. It was peaceful, wild, and so humbling, like nature’s reminder that you’re just a small part of something much bigger.

For lunch, I stopped at Grills Seafood Deck & Tiki Bar, another local gem right by the marina. The view is unbeatable, and if you time it right, you might even see a cruise ship departing in the distance. Their grilled mahi-mahi sandwich hit the spot, especially paired with an ice-cold beer.

That evening, I couldn’t resist one last walk by the water. I ended my trip watching the sky turn cotton-candy pink, toes buried in the sand, listening to waves crash gently as night fell. It was one of those moments you want to bottle up and keep forever.

ANY OTHER TIPS FOR VISITING COCOA BEACH?

    • Watch a rocket launch. Seriously. The first time I saw one, I had goosebumps. Check the launch schedule, they’re visible right from the beach.
    • Bring cash for parking. Most beach lots charge a small fee.
    • Don’t rush. Cocoa Beach isn’t about ticking off attractions, it’s about slowing down and letting the day unfold.
    • Get to the beach early. Finding a good parking spot can get challenging, so try to get there early or better yet stay at a hotel with beach access.

CONCLUSION- 2 DAY ITINERARY FOR COCOA BEACH, FL

By the time I drove back toward Orlando, my hair smelled like salt, my skin was sun-warmed, and my heart felt lighter. Cocoa Beach had reminded me of something simple, that you don’t always have to travel far to feel far away.

It’s not just about the waves or the sunsets or even the food (though all of that helps). It’s about the feeling, that soft, breezy, Florida magic that seeps into you the moment you set foot on the sand.

So if you’re dreaming of a quick weekend escape that feels like a deep breath, pack your bag, grab your flip-flops, and head east. Cocoa Beach is waiting, and trust me, once you go, you’ll want to come back again and again.
