I know spring is technically still miles away, but a lot of you like me might be ready for it to be here already. Well, unfortunately, we still have a few months of winter left but we can surely start planning the trip. After traveling to several places around the globe, I have narrowed down my favorite destinations which I think are perfect for your upcoming spring break. Now before you start planning your trip, answer these few questions to help determine which will be the best spring break destination for you.

First question I always ask myself before planning any trip is how much money you got? This can vary based on whether you are on a college student aka almost always broke budget or a family of 4 budget. Where will you be traveling from? A colder place like Washington, D.C. /New York, are you someone lucky enough to live in the sunshine state of Florida or the beautiful state of California? Are you looking for a ‘lay at the beach all day and party all night’ type of spring break destination or are you looking to take a family bonding vacation? (Those are always fun) Will your budget allow a flight? Train ride? Road trip? Cycle/walking? Are you planning to travel with a group and split the costs?

Once you have considered these factors, you are now ready to pick your destination and have lots of fun on your spring break!

    Cancun

Cancun was truly an unforgettable destination for me. It was my first trip to a beachy destination. The water was crystal clear, the sunshine just brightens your soul, beaches are beautiful and the cool breeze from the ocean takes all your stress away. How can such a trip be forgotten?

Even though, I went right after spring break, there were still some leftover spring breakers. Imagine laying on a beach while sipping your favorite drink, or just having a good laugh with your friends. And when the sun sets, you are ready for a fun night out filled with dancing and music! During the day, either rent a car or book a tour to check off one of the New Seven Wonder of the world, Chichen Itza. It is a must see if you are visiting Mexico. You can click here to purchase your tickets in advance, if you are looking to book a tour to visit the site, click here. A lot of the tours also offer pick up/drop off from the hotels in Cancun. Read about my trip to Cancun here.

    Las Vegas

Oh Sin city! Most of us know how ‘sinful’ Vegas can be, however, it is not always a bad thing. After visiting Vegas several times, I discovered it has so much more to offer than just the gambling and extravagant nightlife. You can take a fun helicopter ride to explore the Grand Canyon, enjoy some fancy tea at the Mandalay Bay, or watch the fountain show at the Bellagio. Click here for the perfect 4 days itinerary for Vegas.

    Miami

Miami, Miami! How can I not include Miami in this list. The beautiful South Beach, Ocean Drive, the people going grocery shopping in their Ferraris, the cute little dogs dressed in more designer items than me and ofcourse the lit nightlife. Oh and delicious food at every corner. This is a glimpse of your spring break in Miami.

Miami offers a variety of cuisines which makes it a foodies paradise! One of my favorite ways to see Miami is on a catamaran boat, best way to watch the sunset! I celebrated my 30th birthday in Miami, and this was my ride for a few hours, click here.

    Bahamas

As they say, its better in the Bahamas! A very convenient destination especially from the United States. The U.S. dollars are used which means no need for currency conversion, English is widely spoken by most of the locals, cabs are readily available and the island is easy to get around.

The island itself is stunning, I mean how can any island in the Caribbean not be, right? The food is delicious and the locals are extremely friendly! Read about my trip to the Bahamas here. It will give you plenty of reasons to go.

    Puerto Rico

At this point, I hope you have realized that I am big fan of beach vacations. You can’t really blame me, I live in a cold region and who doesn’t like the beach?

You don’t need a passport to travel to Puerto Rico if you are traveling from the U.S., no currency exchange hassles, a short flight from most of the states and they have a lot of things to do and see which makes it an excellent spring break destination. Oh and let’s not forget the deliciously amazing food, and funest nightlife. There are plenty of things to do for families too such as zip lining in the rain forest, learning about the history of the island by visiting the castles, and ofcourse the beaches! Here is an ultimate 3 day itinerary for Puerto Rico.

    Shenandoah National Park

Nature lovers I have some options for you too. Spring break does not always have to be sunshine, beaches and partying (all though that sounds like a great idea). If you are someone who would rather spend your vacation being active (ughhh whyy) and reconnecting with mother nature, Shenandoah National Park is perfect for you. Located just an hour and half away from the Washington, D.C. area, Shenandoah offers some amazing views and hikes. You can also camp out there or rent a cabin from Big Meadows Lodge. Click here for pricing.

If you are on the West Coast, Yosemite National Park is a must visit, the valley will take your breath away!

A couple of other parks on my bucket list are Yellowstone, Great Smokey Mountains in Tennessee, Grand Canyon and Crater Lake National Park in Oregon.

    St. Petersburg, Florida

Back at the the beach. This one is for the low-key spring breakers. You are looking for a break away from the big city or popular spots, on a tight budget, then check out St. Petersburg, Florida. Stunning beaches, white sandy beaches, fun local bars by the beach and finger-licking sea food. You can also explore Clearwater Beach which is a short drive away from St. Pete. Clearwater was my favorite beach when I lived in Orlando, which is also less than 2 hours away. Click here if you need more things to do in Florida.

    Crater Lake National Park

    Amsterdam

Have you considered flying to Europe for your spring break? It might not be as warm as the other places but it sure is a lot of fun. The city is a popular vacation spot for many American travelers simply because of how easy it is to get around and it is fun for all ages! Best way to explore Amsterdam is on a bicycle, the city has more than a million bikes! You can easily rent one for your trip or use public transportation to navigate around. Don’t forget to check Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum and the Heinken Experience. If you are at an adult age, dare I recommend touring the Red Light District at your own risk, it is lot more crowded and lively once the sun sets. Everything you need to know about Amsterdam, right here.

While you are in the area, you can rent a car or hop on a train and visit the city of Brussels in Belgium which is only about 2 hours away! Stuff your face with some delicious waffles, Belgian fries and chocolate! Well thats atleast what I did. You can explore the main points via foot or public transportation. Don’t forget to take some chocolate as souvenirs, Belgian chocolate is to die for! Here is your walking tour of Brussels guide, click here.

Soo…your thoughts? Questions? Ready for Spring break yet? I know I sure am, well I am ready to go to a warmer destination. How are you planning to spend your spring break this year? Have you started planning yet or are you the go with the flow type?

These are some of the destinations I have been to and are popular especially during the spring break time. A few more that I can think of are Punta Cana in Dominican Republic (heading there in February), New Orleans, haven’t been there yet but have heard nothing but good things about the city and the state of Oregon for the breathtaking nature and views. Keep an eye out for a post about Punta Cana once I am back.

With how cold the weather is in Minnesota right now, I would gladly visit any of these locations. Especially anywhere that is warm and I can sit on a beach!
