    Renaissance Pittsburgh Hotel Review

DISCLAIMER: While my stay was complimentary, all opinions are my own and reflect my personal experience. Special thanks to The Renaissance Pittsburgh Hotel!

Need another staycation option? Well, you are in luck, because I did majority of the research for you and all you need to do is to make the reservation. For this past New years eve, I was on the hunt for a new city, not too far from Washington, D.C. but not too close either. My version of staycation does not involve staying at my own home. Anyways, the answer was Pittsburgh, new city, a quick 3ish hours drive, lot of things to discover. Fortunately, I was invited by the Renaissance Pittsburgh Hotel to stay for the weekend. I do tend to gravitate towards Airbnbs usually, however, the ratings and hotel’s location sounded attractive to me. Is the hotel actually any good? Keep on reading for my honest review of the Renaissance Pittsburgh Hotel!

About– The Renaissance Pittsburgh Hotel Review

Renaissance Pittsburgh Hotel, originally known as the Fulton building, was designed by the prominent Pittsburgh architect Grosvenor Atterbury and built in 1906! Since its opening in the 1900s, the Fulton Building has gone through a series of renovations. In it’s past life, it was a WWII VA hospital, nightclub and an office building. The latest makeover was completed in 2001 and gave birth to the stunning Renaissance Pittsburgh Hotel.

The Renaissance is a 4 star luxury hotel with excellent online reviews and word of mouth recommendations. The hotel is located on 6th Street, Pittsburgh, right in the heart of downtown which gives you plenty of things to do mostly just a few mins walk away.

    Location

Location, location and location! When I say convenient I mean, you walk out of the door and everything is right there! The prime location of the hotel makes it another big hit. Whether you are looking for fine dining, in town to watch Steelers play, a fun bar and nightlife, or even need to run to CVS, it is literally all right there. Some of the other things to do in the area include Point State Park which is about a 7 mins drive and Andy Warhol museum, and Pittsburgh zoo & aquarium.

    The Room

Upon entering the room, the first thing you notice are the tall ceilings which makes the room seem extremely spacious and the BIG windows with an amazing view of the Allegheny river and Heinz Field. The room is well equipped with everything to make you feel at home. Most importantly the beds and pillows were comfortable, it was like sleeping on a cloud!

On the flip side, I wasn’t too impressed with the bathroom as it seemed a little bit outdated specifically the tub area. To many it might be unnoticeable, however, I point this out due to the fact that this is an honest review of a 4 star luxury hotel, hence each and every detail matters.

The rooms are decorated very modern. Even though, I wasn’t able to stay in one of the suites, Renaissance Hotel was kind enough to let me borrow their photos of some of the other rooms and all I can say is they look stunning! If you guys would like to see my stay in one of these rooms, specifically the one with the huge balcony, I will happily accept any donations 🙂 (just kidding).

    Amenities

Upon entering the hotel, the first thing you notice is the grand lobby which surely gives the hotel a WOW factor. The hotel is home to one of Pittsburgh’s best restaurant- Braddock Rebellion. I did grab some really late lunch from there and it was delicious. I recommend trying the Bavarian pretzel, will surely take you back to Germany.

The hotel also has a fully equipped 24 hours gym. Adding to the finishing touches, they even had fresh apples at the gym, how thoughtful!

    Overall- Renaissance Pittsburgh Hotel Review

Here is my final verdict on the Renaissance Hotel Pittsburgh. The hotel is conveniently located in downtown Pittsburgh which gives you plenty of things to do and lots of places to eat at. You can see the Heinz Field from your room, literally. I was in town during a football game and a lot of the Steelers fans were staying at the hotel and they were a fun group to hang out with!

The hotel is decorated luxuriously, the lobby adds a touch of elegance to the hotel’s decor. The rooms are spacious, the tall ceilings and the huge glass windows were my favorite part of the room.

Customer service is top notch! You can tell all the employees genuinely cared about you and gave it their best effort each and every time. From the helpful and super informative valet driver to the quick and easy check in process, each and every employee I came across was extremely friendly and I was greeted with a smile regardless of how busy they were.

Some of the things that did not impress me were- the outdated bathroom in my room and the parking situation. The options were valet for $38 per night (ouch) or a garage across the street. I understand parking in the bigger cities is expensive and limited no matter where you go, however, having to spend that amount per day just hurts my wallet. A bathrobe in the room would have been a nice touch too.

I highly recommend staying at the Renaissance Pittsburgh Hotel due to top notch customer service and the perfect location. It is a 4 star luxury hotel and you can definitely sense the luxury as soon as you walk in. Pittsburgh is roughly 3 hours away from Washington, D.C. hence it is an excellent location for a weekend trip! The landscapes in Pennsylvania are beautiful which promises to give your eyes something to look out for.

It’s incredible to think what a building was before! A hospital or night club won’t be in my guesses. Because it looks gorgeous and the architecture matches perfectly for a hotel. Beautiful rooms.

My goodness, that lobby is absolutely stunning! In fact, I love the decor in general.
Location is definitely a factor for us when choosing a hotel so this seems perfect. I would however have thought that parking for in-house guests would be free?! Obviously not valet but….. oh well!
