This post is a 5 day itinerary for an amazing trip to the Bahamas.
“Welcome to Paradise!” That’s how I was greeted by my cab driver at the Nassau airport.
Paradise? My first thought: he’s being extra. I mean, I had just landed, sweaty from the flight, hair in a messy bun, trying to balance my carry-on and find Wi-Fi. But the moment we drove out of the airport and the Caribbean breeze hit my face, I got it. He wasn’t wrong.
Even though it was my first time in the Bahamas, it felt weirdly familiar, like I had been there before in my dreams. The colors were brighter, the air felt heavier (in a good way), and my shoulders dropped for the first time in weeks. This wasn’t just a beach trip, it was the kind of experience that lingers in your soul.
This blog isn’t just an itinerary, it’s my story. Five days of pure magic, saltwater, fried conch, and moments that made me pause and say, “Wow, this is my life right now.”
Let me take you with me.
I now offer a custom vacation planning service. Check it out here!
THINGS TO KNOW- HOW DO I PLAN A 5 DAY TRIP TO THE BAHAMAS
When is the best time to visit the Bahamas?
I went in April, and honestly? Perfect choice. The breeze was cool enough to sleep with the windows open but warm enough to live in swimsuits. If you’re planning your own trip, try to go between December and April. You’ll avoid hurricane season and crowds, and the ocean will practically beg you to jump in.
How to get around in the Bahamas?
In Nassau, I mostly relied on taxis and walking. There was something about walking through town with my hair still wet from the ocean that made me feel so alive. But note: taxis here don’t have meters, so always ask for the price upfront.
If you’re heading to outer islands like Exuma or Rose Island, boat rides are the move. Trust me, nothing makes you feel more like a main character than speeding across crystal-blue water with music blasting.
What to pack for the Bahamas?
I overpacked. Of course. But here’s what I actually used:
- Breezy dresses (lived in them)
- Swimsuits (plural): you’ll wear one daily
- Reef-safe sunscreen: the sun is no joke
- Snorkel mask: worth bringing your own
- Waterproof phone case: I still thank myself for this
- Travel towel: especially handy for boat trips
- A light sweater: for the evenings when the breeze picks up
I didn’t bother with heels, island casual is the way to go.
Where to eat in the Bahamas?
Food was such a surprise here. I had expected good seafood, but the flavor blew me away. Think: spicy jerk chicken, buttery lobster tail, and conch in every form imaginable. My go-to was conch salad, made fresh in front of you with citrus and peppers. I swear, the first bite changed my brain chemistry.
You’ll find beach shacks with 5-star flavor, and yes, I did eat plantains like they were candy. Zero regrets.
Any other tips for visiting the Bahamas?
- Island time is real. Things move slowly. Embrace it.
- U.S. dollars are accepted. So is kindness. Say hi to people.
- Stay hydrated. Rum punch is not a replacement for water (I learned this the hard way).
- Book tours in advance, especially if you’re going to Pig Beach or doing a catamaran day.

STEAL MY 5 DAY ITINERARY FOR THE BAHAMAS
This is how I made the most of 5 days in the Bahamas without feeling rushed. Each day had its own vibe, and somehow the trip felt both relaxing and full of adventure. Here’s how it went:
DAY 1: Arrive in Nassau + Junkanoo Beach
As soon as I dropped my bags at the hotel (shoutout to Margaritaville Beach Resort for having chilled rum punch in the lobby), I changed into my swimsuit, grabbed a towel, and headed to Junkanoo Beach.
The walk there was buzzing, vendors, music, the scent of BBQ in the air. I got a Sky Juice (coconut water + condensed milk + gin) from a roadside stand and sat barefoot in the sand, watching the sunset paint the ocean in pinks and golds.
That night, I found myself at Fish Fry at Arawak Cay. I ordered cracked conch and fried plantains at Twin Brothers, and honestly? I wanted to cry from happiness. It was that good. I talked to the lady next to me for an hour, we shared tips, laughed, and toasted our cocktails.
That’s the Bahamas for you: strangers become friends by the second course.
DAY 2: Exuma Excursion, pigs, sharks & Island dreaming
This was the day I had been waiting for. I woke up like a kid on Christmas.
The boat picked us up early and took off toward the Exuma Cays, about 1.5 hours by speedboat. The views? Insane. The water didn’t even look real.
We stopped at:
- Pig Beach – Yes, they swam up to me. Yes, I squealed.
- Thunderball Grotto – Snorkeling in a James Bond movie set? Check.
- Shark swimming at Compass Cay – My heart was racing, but I did it!
- Allen’s Cay – where iguanas roam wild like tiny dinosaurs
Lunch was grilled fish eaten with sandy fingers on a picnic table, and I’ve never tasted anything better. By the time we headed back, my face hurt from smiling and my camera roll was at max capacity.
Dinner that night was quiet. I ordered room service and ate on my balcony, listening to waves and thinking, This is the life I want to live more often.
DAY 3: Nassau vibes + Culture walk
I started the day with local coffee and a guava pastry from a street vendor. It was flaky, warm, and gone in 60 seconds.
I walked to the Queen’s Staircase, 66 steps carved into limestone, shaded by trees and full of history. Standing there, reading about its origins, made me reflect on how much these islands have seen. The energy is sacred.
From there, I wandered through:
- John Watling’s Distillery (hello, rum tasting)
- The Straw Market for handmade souvenirs
- The National Art Gallery, super underrated
For lunch, I ate at Curly’s back at Arawak Cay. Their grilled snapper made me dance in my seat (true story).
That evening, I ended up at Graycliff Hotel, one of the oldest buildings in Nassau. I sipped a cocktail under the string lights of their garden bar and just let myself be. No rush, no to-do list, just stillness.
DAY 4: Rose Island escape
If I could bottle one day and relive it forever, it’d be this one.
I booked a catamaran tour to Rose Island, and from the second we boarded, it felt like a beach party. Music, sun, rum punch. Vibes.
Once we docked, I felt like I was on a private island (because I kinda was). I snorkeled with turtles, ate grilled mahi-mahi on the beach, and laid in a hammock for what felt like hours. No notifications. Just waves and reggae.
One moment, I remember floating on my back in the ocean, staring at the sky and thinking, I hope I always remember this exact feeling.
That night, I had dinner at The Poop Deck (ridiculous name, amazing food). I ordered grilled lobster and sipped white wine watching the marina glow under string lights.
DAY 5: Atlantis + last goodbyes
I knew I couldn’t leave without seeing Atlantis on Paradise Island, so I hopped in a cab and spent the day exploring. The water slides? Epic. The aquarium tunnels? Mesmerizing. It felt like a little Disney World on the sea.
But my favorite moment was the last one.
Before heading to the airport, I walked barefoot along Cabbage Beach, hair salty, sun-kissed, heart so full. I stood at the shoreline and whispered, Thank you.
The cab driver on the way back asked if I’d be coming again.
I smiled and said, “Oh, I’ll be back.”
CONCLUSION- 5 DAY ITINERARY FOR THE BAHAMAS
The Bahamas weren’t just beautiful, they were healing. I came for the photos and left with stories, sunburn, and a calmer heart.
If you’re thinking about going… go. Chase the sunsets, dance on the boat decks, eat your weight in conch, and let yourself feel everything. That’s what travel is about.
Save this itinerary. Steal it. Make it your own. But whatever you do, don’t wait too long to visit this slice of paradise.

It does look like paradise. My favourite part was how people greeted everyone on the bus before getting to their seats. Part of what makes a destination special is the people.
