    Christmas in Atlanta- 2017

Greetings everyone! Hopefully 2018 is bringing you lots of positive vibes and happiness in your lives. My year has been off to a wonderful start and there is lot more to come! Having said that, let me take you back to 2017 and share how I spent my Christmas.

So this past Christmas, I decided to take a road trip down South. After driving for about 10 hours, I arrived in Atlanta. Atlanta, the capital of Georgia. The city played an important part in both the Civil War and the 1960s Civil Rights Movement. The city has so much more to offer, friendly locals, lots of peaches, cool restaurants/cafes, amazing street art and of course traffic!

As soon as I dropped off my baggage at our Airbnb rented apartment, I headed straight to a local Publix for their delicious sub! If you have had one of those, you know what I am talking about and if you haven’t, you are certainly missing out. Next morning (Christmas eve), roughly 25 minutes from Emory University was our destination, Stone Mountain Park which is basically a scenic park with lots of fun activities for all age groups. Some of the activities that you can do during the holiday season are snow tubing, golfing, and also a cable car ride to the top of the carved peak for some breathtaking views. Oh and how can I forgot funnel cake! The area below the mountain is beautifully decorated for Christmas with lots of lights, and family friendly activities such as train rides. As I wrapped up my evening, crowds continued to pour in to enjoy their Christmas eve.

Christmas day is here and I have a list of things I planned to explore. How exciting! Hopped in my car and first stop breakfast. Wait, what? Publix is closed??! Oh darn! Next stop, a local restaurant and guess what? CLOSED! Okay, so moving on towards the city. So I headed to Krog market which was highly recommended, known for it’s West Coast style markets and restaurants spread over 12,000 sq. ft. But guess what? Yup, CLOSED! *Panic*

Back in the car and on the hunt for food, literally! I headed towards downtown Atlanta with high hopes. one of the biggest and busiest down South, there has to be A restaurant open. Well…downtown Atlanta, which is infamously known for it’s traffic was dead! No one on the streets, no cars, Nada! After driving around/getting lost for 30 minutes, I came across a Waffle House that was open. I can’t begin to tell you how happy I was, food at last! If you know me, you are very well aware I get extremely hangry which just gets worst by the second.

I certainly appreciate the welcoming staff at the Waffle House, working on a day when the rest of the city gets to spend time with their loved ones, it is not always easy but the staff was excellent! After satisfying my belly, I headed on the search for the Tiny Doors and some street art. Tiny Doors are scattered around Atlanta. They are hard to locate and due to their size, can be easily overlooked. I am not sure which one of the two happened, but I did not find any (Sad face). Since everything was closed in the city, I drove around and made some stops, taking my time to admire the street art all over the city aka IG photo shoot time. Before heading back to my apartment, I stopped at a CVS Pharmacy to grab some DiGiorno pizza for dinner and ended the night by watching Bad Santa on Netflix. Traveling is not always so glamorous.

The next morning as I prepared for my drive back home, I reflected on my trip, even though things were challenging, it was good to see business closed so everyone got an opportunity to spend time with their loved ones. Atlanta has so much to offer and I can’t wait to go back.

How did you spend your Christmas? I would love to hear back from you!

Looks like you had a fabulous Christmas there! For me, Christmas is all about being at home with family, but someday, I’d like to do something a little different. Exploring a new place would be really fun!
